Video and Flash

Videos can be added to screens, or to Feedbacks in screens. The video you can display depends upon the capabilities of the computer upon which your test, lesson or survey is being delivered. Question Tools supports MPEG, Windows Media Files (WMV), Video for Windows (AVI), QuickTime (MOV, depending upon the compressor used), and Flash (SWF). The recommended formats are MPEG and Windows Media Files (WMV). The maximum number of video or Flash files you can have in one screen is 10 (including videos and Flash files in feedback areas).

Moving videos. Note that you cannot move a video around by clicking on it and dragging, you have to click and drag on the area surrounding the video. In addition, video appears on top of everything else, and can hide new Buttons, Text Areas and other objects.

Flash

Screen files can include Flash files created with Adobe Flash or Adobe LiveMotion. You can import a Flash file just as you might import a video — just create a new video object and select a Flash file instead. However, you have to know the size of the file in pixels, as Editor does not pick this up automatically.

A warning about Flash. While Flash can provide attractive animations and interactions, it cannot run on any computer unless the Adobe Flash plug-in is installed. As organizations become increasingly concerned about viruses and other security issues, browser plug-ins are being excluded from many networks. In other words, if you use Flash then not all of your users will be able to use your materials.

Other Controls

Lock. If lock is selected then you will not be able to move the Video using the mouse or the arrow keys on the keyboard — it prevents accidental movements. However, you can still move and resize a Video by entering values in the Left, Top, Width and Height fields.
