List Inspector: Options

Present screens in random order

As you might expect, the order of the screens is randomly assigned, and so each user will probably see the screens in a different order. When users finish a test and review their answers the screens will then be displayed in the order in which they were shown during the test — in other words, the random order is saved.

Number displayed

This determines how many screens are displayed during the test. If your test contains eight screens and you set this number to be four, then each user will see just four screens. The screens users see are randomly selected, and so different users will end up with different selections of screens. If this number is set to zero, or a number equal to or larger than the number of screens in the test then it has no effect.

If screens are assigned to categories then screens will be randomly selected evenly across the categories.

Is a survey

This gets rid of any ticks or crosses, and changes the way Question Tools deals with the results.

In a window

This option only applies to browser-based lessons, surveys and tests. They can appear in either a new, pop-up window, or in the same window as the screen from which they were called.

Treat as an examination

This option will hide other applications during the test, and will also turn off any cheating features such as the Cheat button and the Mark button. Users will not be able to prematurely exit Question Tools Exam until they have finished the test.

Access Password

If you enter a password here then users will not be able to start your survey, lesson or test until they have entered this password. This option works for Banks, Standalone Applications and tests, lessons and surveys delivered via Active Web Pages.

Start automatically

This option only applies when a survey, lesson or test is created as a set of web pages. When this option is select the start web page is a blank screen that automatically starts the test, survey or lesson. This feature is turned on automatically if the output is Scorm export.

Hide other applications

If this option is selected then Question Tools Exam will place a large background window over the whole screen, covering other applications. If the test is taken using a web browser then the screen will be normally filled (depending upon the web browser) and other applications hidden. This option does not work if the test is taken using a web browser that blocks pop-up windows.

Overall time limit (minutes)

This determines the time limit for the test, lesson or survey. If it is set to zero then it has no effect. The user will be given a 5 minute warning prior to the end of the lesson, test or survey.

When this option is used it is possible to display an on-screen countdown of the minutes and seconds left before the end of the test, lesson or survey. Click here for more information.

Limit per screen (seconds)

If this is set to anything other than zero then each screen will be limited to the time set in seconds. Once this time limit is reached the user will be automatically moved to the next screen. The Back button will not work during a test (although it will work later once answers are being reviewed — i.e. the test has finished).

When this option is used it is possible to display an on-screen countdown of the minutes and seconds left before the user is automatically moved to the next screen. Click here for more information.

Note that time limits can also be set on per screen basis. Click here for more information.
