Frequently-Asked Questions

Pictures allow you to display a variety of image types, including BMP, PNG, JPEG, GIF and animated GIF. In addition to the main image, you can also have pictures that show when the user moves a mouse over the main image, as well as images that show when the user clicks on the image. The maximum number of pictures you can have in one screen is 100.

It is possible to stretch images if the Position menu is set to Stretch to Fit, but for sake of image quality and file size we recommend that you create your graphics are the appropriate size.

Sound

You can attach sounds to a Picture that will play every time the user clicks on the image. Attached sounds can be in WAV, MP2, MP3 or AIF formats.

Background

The Background control allows you to automatically create a box around any Picture. The Fill colour determines the colour of the background box.

Clip Art

The Clip Art menu can be used to select an image, such as an arrow, that matches the current Master Style. These images will change when you change style. Click here for more information on Styles.

Links

The way links work depends upon whether your test, lesson or survey is delivered in a web browser, or using the Question Tools Exam software.

Question Tools Exam. If you enter a link such as MyBank.qtb then Question Tools Exam will open this Bank when the user clicks on the Picture. The Open in new window setting will have no effect. If the link starts with http:// then Question Tools Exam will open the link as a web page. If the suffix .qtb is found then Question Tools Exam will close the present Bank and open the link in Question Tools Exam.

Web browsers. If a link ends with the .qtb suffix then Question Tools will convert this to .html when the test, lesson or survey is created as a set of web pages. The Open in new window setting does have an effect.

Other Controls

Lock. If lock is selected then you will not be able to move the Picture using the mouse or the arrow keys on the keyboard — it prevents accidental movements. However, you can still move and resize a Picture by entering values in the Left, Top Width and Height fields.

Name. You can give a Picture more or less any name you wish.

Layer. Pictures, Buttons, Shapes and Text Areas can be made to appear above or beneath each other. Change the Layer setting to bring the object forwards or backwards. Layer 1 is shown at the front, and layer 10 is shown at the very back. Note also that Drags, Menus, Fields and Videos are always shown on top of other objects, and this is why they do not have Layer menus.

External media

You may wish to deliver a test, lesson or survey from NetResult, NetTest or an ordinary webserver, but serve the video, sound and even pictures from another website. You can do this by creating a text file in the same folder as the media file, and with the same name as the media file, but with a suffix of .txt.

For example, imagine there was a file called myvideo.mpg. You can create a file called myvideo.txt, and inside this file could be the link you want used, http://www.myotherwebsite.com/myvideo.mpg. If you do this the video will not be included in the web pages or NetSeries package, and instead the link will be used.

This technique has no effect on Standalone Applications.
