Drags

Drags allow your users to drag an answer to a particular place. Each place or target to which the Drag can be moved can have a different mark. A single Drag can have up to 200 targets, while marks for these targets can vary from 0.01 through to 9998. Marks can also be negative. A Drag can be a button with text, or it can be an image. The maximum number of drags you can have in one screen is 100.

Results Text

The Results Text Area in the Screen Inspector is where you can enter text you want to appear in the user's results. This text will also appear in the results collected centrally using a NetSeries webserver.

Dynamic linking. If you wish you can dynamically link text in a Text Area to results text for the Field. In this way, your results text is updated every time you change the Text Area to which it is linked. To do this just enter the name of the Text Area (as it appears in the Screen Inspector), but with square brackets either side of the name. For example, if you wished to link the text in a Text Area called Text 1 to a drag's results text, then all you have to do is enter [Text 1] in the space for Results Text in the drag tab of the Screen Inspector.

Copying text. You can click on a Text Area using the right mouse button and copy the text to the Results Text Area for a Field. You can also double-click on a Text Area to edit it, select just some of the text, and then right-click to copy just the selected text to the Results Text Area for a Drag.

Other Controls

Lock. If lock is selected then you will not be able to move the Drag using the mouse or the arrow keys on the keyboard — it prevents accidental movements. However, you can still move and resize a Drag by entering values in the Left, Top, Width and Height fields.

Name. The name you give a Drag is the name that will appear on its button (unless images are used instead).

Style and Visual Appearance

The font, font size, font colour and background colour are automatically set according to the Style setting. Click here to find out more about creating your own style. If you wish to directly alter the font, font size and other settings then change the Style setting to Custom and the controls you need will appear.

Moving Targets

Creating up to 200 individual targets for each Drag provides a great deal of flexibility. However, if you have to move each one individually then this presents a problem. To deal with this, you can hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and select more than one target. Alternatively, if you need to move all of the targets for a Drag you can press the Alt key on your keyboard and then select and drag a target — this will move all of the Drag's targets.

Entering Target Names

Useful shortcut: You can copy a range of target names onto the Pasteboard and simply drag them onto a Drag. This is a quick way of creating named targets, but you will still have to drag the targets into place and possibly resize them. Click here for more information on the Pasteboard.

Copying Answers

Useful shortcut: you can click on a Drag with the right mouse button and copy all of the targets from the Drag you have clicked on to one you select from the pop-up menu that will appear.

Maximum Selections

The Screen tab of the Screen Inspector has a field called Maximum Selections. It sets the maximum number of Drags buttons that can be dragged into place at one time.
